How long is the MCRTE exam?
Once started, you'll have 24 hours to exploit a realistic scenario. You will be provided with an entry-point, and will need to complete an exploitation chain to get the flag.
Will the MCRTE certificate expire or require renewing?
No, once awarded, the MCRTE certificate will not expire or require renewing.
Will I receive a Credly digital certificate on passing the MCRTE exam?
Yes, in addition to your official MCRTE certificate you will also receive a Credly digital certificate.
Do I need to submit a report of the red team exploitation scenario after gaining the MCRTE exam flag?
No, you are not required to submit a report after gaining the MCRTE exam flag.
What is the process to retake the MCRTE exam?
Your registration includes two exam attempts. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you can book your second attempt at least two weeks after the previous one. Additional retake attempts can be purchased separately if needed.
I have an existing Pwned Labs login. Do I use this to access the bootcamp?
It would probably be a good idea to use the same email address to register for the bootcamp. Currently the bootcamps and main Pwned Labs logins are separate, but will be unified in the future.
Does the Pwned Labs Microsoft Cloud Attack & Defense Bootcamp - Expert Edition have everything I need to attempt the MCRTE exam?
Yes, the Pwned Labs Microsoft Cloud Attack & Defense Bootcamp - Expert Edition and associated learning path have everything that you will need to attempt the MCRTE exam, and prove that you have acquired the skills. You may have to apply the learning in new ways, as the scenarios will not be exactly the same.
How do I access the training content?
All training content is available on-demand once access begins. You can work through the material at your own pace with lifetime lab access. Private discussion and support channels are available in the Pwned Labs Discord.
Will I need my own EC2 / droplet etc or custom domain for the MCRTE exam?
A C2 framework is required for the exam. Since OpSec is not evaluated, redirectors are not necessary - a direct C2 setup is sufficient. Any framework is acceptable; however, we recommend Havoc or Mythic for their simplicity and GUI-based workflows. Sliver and Metasploit are also solid choices. For those new to C2 operations, Mythic's creator Cody Thomas maintains an excellent YouTube channel that walks through setup and usage from the ground up.
Is the MCRTE exam proctored?
The MCRTE exam is not proctored. You will receive a invitation for the start time/date of your exam. This is just sent as a reminder of your exam start time.
Do the MCRTE exam attempts expire?
No, MCRTE exam attempts do not expire. You also have lifetime lab access.
Is there a deadline for taking the MCRTE exam?
No, there is no deadline. Your exam attempts and lab access do not expire.
How soon can I book my exam?
You can start booking your exam once your access begins. There is a rolling 3-day buffer, meaning you can choose any available exam date that's at least 3 days in the future. It's not possible to book an exam attempt on a Sunday.
For example, if you book on a Thursday, the earliest you can sit the exam is Monday.
